This Saryk Turkmen rug was woven in Turkmenistan during the late 19th century.
It features a repeat field of octagonal main guls and cruciform minor guls on a richly colored plum ground. Classic guls associated with the Saryk. The back showcases construction of tightly packed asymmetric knots, high warp depression, and deeply toned red wefting hallmarks found on both Tekke and Saryk rugs of the period. The borders are dense and harmonious, filled with geometric detailing and anchored by elegant guards. An elegant yet powerful piece.
In good condition; the corners have been rewoven professionally and one small hole (as pictured)
