Detailed information on Acorn Necklace

Acorns are an important source of food for many wildlife such as jays, pigeons, ducts, woodpeckers, mince, and squirrels. Large mammals such as pigs, bears and deer also consume large amount of acorns; they may constitute up to 25% of the diet of deer in the autumn.

The acorn represents strength and potential. The proverb \"great oaks from little acorns grow\", which dates back to the 14th century, means that great things can come from small and humble beginnings.

To the Nordic and Celtic people, the acorn was a symbol of fertility and immortality. In Norse mythology, oak trees are sacred to Thor, the god of lightning, as the tall trees attracted lightning. When the storm ended, druids would collect acorns, which were miraculously spared from the god\'s wrath. Druids believed that consumption of acorns would help see into the future.

Whenever there was a storm, Scandinavians would place an acorn on the windowsill as a gesture of respect to Thor, and as a request for protection from lighting.

The acorn also symbolises good luck, prosperity and youthfulness.
