Detailed information on Eternal Weaver Spyglass Necklace.

Thought to be 300 million years old, the ancient Spider embodies the opposing yet balanced forces of creation and destruction. These traits manifest via its cunning and aggressive hunting skills, which contrast with its inherit creativity: the spider’s body creates and stores a silk which is then woven into intricate and beautiful webs; existing as both its moveable home, and its nightly hunting grounds.

As (mostly) nocturnal beings, Spiders are often associated with the mystery, magic, and dream like quality of the Night. This nocturnality associates Spider (as well as Moth, Snake, Scorpion) with the Shadow Self. The Shadow Self is a concept via Carl Jung and represents the repressed parts of our psyche, the traits that are societally/culturally deemed ‘bad’ or ‘unacceptable’ (anger, sadness, grief, selfishness, pettiness, etc.) The shadow is composed of all of the disowned and unwanted parts of yourself that you press down into the unconscious. Shadow work – the process of identifying (rather than projecting onto others) these traits and feelings is messy, brutal, lifelong work. There are romantic aspects to it (for me, the dream of being whole), but it also has a raw quality, akin to those traumatic first days of new grief. Jung emphasizes the importance of integrating the shadow more consciously into ourselves – a way of recognizing, accepting and transforming these ‘horrors’ hidden within ourselves.

As a balm / protective talisman, Spider helps carry these ‘shadow feelings’ for its wearer. It creates a psychic silk; a home, a hunting ground, a locus for creativity, a cosmic labyrinth. It can be your anchor during uninvited journeys to the past or when you find yourself flushed with intense emotions. A companion during shadow journaling, threshold crossing, meditation, moments of grief, ________. A touchstone, a bookmark. Here, our elegantly large Spider forever holds a round, slightly convex magnifying glass. Its upper body acts as the ‘handle’ to this spyglass: a portal to the other world, an invitation for curiosity- to investigate, examine and observe.

Both pendant and chain are sterling silver, hand oxidized to achieve our shade of stormy gray and then highlighted to reveal the bright luminous silver beneath.

Magnifying lenses magnify the small things we are unable to see clearly when placed beneath the glass, acting as a large, powerful ‘eye’. While the glass is fully functional as an object/tool, as a talisman it urges its wearer to look closer, to see/feel the invisible: whether that be by examining our feelings and our Shadow with a deeper gaze or turning our sights to others; to mindfully ‘see’ our friends, lovers, family, and community: to foster a deeper sense of empathy, to spark the current of transformation.
