True Egyptian Blue Lotus vs Asian Variety Blue Lotus (Popular Variety)

It came to my attention recently that the popular variety being offered everywhere is actual the Asian Variety or related species to the legitimate Ancient Egyptian Blue Water Lily!

I began researching the difference including several scholarly articles. The Egyptian Blue Water Lily was used in ancient ceremonies related to Hathor to bring joy, happiness and love. The flowers were used to adorn scrolls and papyrus and used in many rituals and ceremonies.

Liam McEvoy from the University of Berkley conducted several studies on the ancient uses of this flower and was able to test the ancient Egyptian variety and the commonly sold Blue Lotus. He found that the Egyptian Blue Water Lily contained more Nuciferine and psychoactive compounds.

Today the original Blue Water Lily is extremely rare. One can compare the difference based on the color of the petals. The Egyptian Blue Water Lily has a white center that fades to blue on the petals. The common Asian variety is completely blue.
