HOT ! Siroua Shades | Afra Pillow

This pillow was handwoven in Ait Moulay Ali by artisans led by Fadma – many of whom trace their roots to the Siroua region near Tazenakht, an area long celebrated for its deep weaving traditions. After relocating closer to Marrakech in search of more opportunity, these artisans brought their ancestral knowledge with them.

Each pillow is crafted entirely by hand using 100% natural Siroua wool and traditional tools. The wool is sheared by hand high in the mountains and washed in the clear waters of the Zat River using only Moroccan black soap. From there, it’s dyed by our master dyer using natural henna, resulting in a rich, earthen palette that reflects the volcanic landscape of the Siroua Mountains.

This piece is a flatweave, a technique known locally as Hanbel or Aknif. Flatweaves from this region are known for being thin, soft, and strong—carrying deep cultural symbolism.

The design of this pillow draws inspiration from the bold linear motifs found in traditional djellabas (aknif), offering a quiet nod to the stories and landscapes that shaped it.
