This vintage Baoulé cloth pillow provides a chic accent to any space - elegantly neutral, a great pop of color, easily mixed and matched with other colors/patterns.
This cloth has a lovely, soft feel. The rich patterns in these vintage, handwoven cloths from the Ivory Coast of West Africa reflect the traditions, symbols, and tribal lives of the Baoulé people.
After carding and spinning cotton fiber, the women of the villages dipped the finished yarn into plant-based dye to create the deep, rich indigo color. It was then hand woven into narrow strips and finally sewn together to create a beautiful soft cloth, which is often embellished by colorful embroidery. These wrappings were highly valued and mainly used as wraps for ceremonial purposes.
