In 1958, Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. spoke at Bennett College, after being banned from speaking elsewhere in Greensboro. Delivered to a packed chapel, his speech was made possible by President Player, who believed that at Bennett, \"freedom rings.\" Inspired by his words, the Bennett students—known as the \"Bennett Belles\"—went on to lead their own powerful protests for justice.
