About the Aqua Collection: In response to the growth of plastic pollution worldwide, Jianhui London has launched a jewelry range made entirely out of discarded plastic bottles. The Aqua Collection is handmade and has the smallest carbon footprint possible, with no extra energy used in its production. All of the pieces in the Aqua Collection are handmade and inspired by nature, in particular willow trees and lily ponds. Each bottle was thoroughly cleaned before being cut into different shapes; they were treated with environmentally friendly candle heat, to smooth rough and uneven edges; and finally hand painted or hand gilded. They are held together with either leatherette or recycled textile cord. The collection is made to the highest ethical standards, produced sustainably and kind to the planet. Jianhui says: “If everyone does something small, then the world can be a different place. Big changes can come in small steps.”

About the artist: 

We believe that style and elegance is important and so too is protecting our planet. Quality and sustainability are at the heart of our designs and we continue to develop fashion with this at the front of our mind. Founded almost 15 years ago, Jianhui London mixes creativity with innovative ethical design - urban living juxtaposed with nature. Jianhui was born into a poor village in rural China. His name was chosen by his mother, it means ‘building a splendid life’. His creative journey began when his parents were not always able to afford the small fee his state school charged. His time out of education was spent in the mountains around his village, fascinated by their colors and abundant natural variety. When he was finally able to attend school regularly, he excelled academically and creatively leading him to study ceramics in the city and then to an MBA in the UK. But his creative urge was not suppressed. He began to create jewelry from items he found or bought and selling it at Portobello market in the west of London. And his true passion for repurposing materials began. For over 10 years we have been handcrafting pieces from recycled or upcycled materials such wood, paper and leathers, to give you beautiful eye-catching designs that can be reworked, twisted and reshaped to create a new look each time.
