HOT ! Mali Mudcloth Cushion (Ebony I)

These authentic Mali mudcloth (Bogolan) cushions are handwoven and hand-dyed using time-honoured techniques.  The cotton is woven in narrow strips and then joined with a relaxed stitch to create a subtly textured fabric that reflects its handmade origins.

Patterns are created using a combination of hand-painted fermented mud and traditional resist techniques.  In addition to the deep black and brown tones produced by the mud, other colours - such as saffron, ochre, and rich rust - are achieved using natural, plant-based dyes.

The finished Bogolan fabric is carefully tailored into cushions in Morocco, preserving the character of the textile. Each cushion features a full-length zipper along one side for easy insert removal and is backed with durable cotton.  As each cushion is handmade, subtle variations in pattern, tone, and colour are inherent, adding to the one-of-a-kind character of each piece.

Our covers measure approximately 14” x 24”, with slight size variations due to their handmade nature. Zipper enclosure along one side.  Sold stuffed or unstuffed.  We recommend, and have used, a luxuriously soft and plump, 16” x 28” synthetic down insert for this cover.  The insert can be machine washed and dried; the cushion cover should be dry cleaned to prevent possible colour bleeding.
