This handsome 2-part British Colonial bookcase is made from Burmese teak and dates to the 19th century. The piece defined by its strong proportions, restrained detailing, and rich, time-earned patina. The upper section features multi-pane glazed doors arranged in a disciplined grid, a hallmark of colonial-era cabinetry designed to protect books and documents while keeping them visible and organized. The two outside doors open out and the center segment, two panes wide, slides left and right.
The interior offers ample shelving for books, ceramics, or curated collections, while the lower paneled doors provide discreet storage, grounding the piece with visual weight and practical function. simple loop hardware reinforces the cabinet’s utilitarian elegance. The interior retains its original pale blue coloring, typical of Indian and Burmese pieces.
Equally at home in a library, dining room, or study, this British Colonial bookcase brings a sense of order, history, and quiet authority—an enduring piece that bridges classical form and everyday usefulness.
