A New Zealand Argillite whale tail, hand carved by Rueben Tipene. This is a finely crafted piece, carved from a beautiful smokey grey piece of Argillite Stone.
This piece can be worn reversed - each side shows the wonderful, crisp carving and a lyrical design. An exceptional carving representing the marvellous whale!
The whale is synonymous with friendship, loyalty, trust and kindness. They have quite some significance in Polynesian cultures. Here in New Zealand they are believed to be descendants of Tangaroa - the God of the Oceans. They are regarded as sacred and supernatural beings and are believed to provide guidance and protection.
MOANA is a touching representation of these sentiments, a beautifully carved piece of art, from an exceptional artist.
